Dennis Knotts dead: Mrs Brown's Boys crewmember dies as star Brendan O'Carroll pays tribute

Mrs Brown's Boys prop master Dennis Knotts has died after testing positive for Covid-19.

Dennis had worked on the production for ten years before his passing earlier this month.

Bendan O’Carroll, the star of Mrs Brown's Boys, made a heartfelt tribute to Dennis by dedicating an upcoming episode to him.

Saying that Dennis was “one of the family”, Mrs Browns Boys star Brendan said the crew had been “devastated” by the news.

He told the Irish Independent: “He was the most adorable man and actually, we dedicated the Christmas episode to him, we loved him very much.

“He's been on every show that we have done with the BBC and that’s ten years now. He was the props master on every one of them; he was lovely,

“We lost one of the family. There were people who had worked with Dennis for 40 years and they are just devastated; they can’t believe it.”

Jenny Gibney, Brendan’s wife and co-star on the series, said that they were in the middle of filming one of two upcoming Christmas specials when they were told of what had happened.

She said: “We were in the middle of recording that episode when we got word that he had passed.

“We did the show for Dennis; that’s how we all got through it. We said, ‘let’s do this one for Dennis.’ And we did.

“I think you need to remember that the virus is still out there and keep taking all the precautions."

The cast are also set for a live Halloween special, which will mark the 10 year anniversary of the show and will be filmed in front of a crowd of 400, fully vaccinated people.

The special is set to have a spirit that only Agnes Brown can see coming back from the dead to haunt her.

Speaking on The One Show about the coming live event, Brendan said: “It’s a huge thrill to do another 'live' show for the BBC. It’ll be so wonderful so see them nervous all over again. We will be trying our best to stick to the script, but honestly a script is just a guideline Ha ha ha!! Bring it on!"
