Legendary soul singer Noel McKoy dies aged 62

Soul musician Noel McKoy has died at the age of 62.

No cause of death has been announced for the London-born star, but representatives confirmed the sad news to Metro.co.uk, sharing that they are in ‘in shock.’

McKoy’s career began with humble beginnings in a school band called The Albions, and he and his siblings released the songs I’m Lucky and Family in 1989.

He released his first album, Full Circle – Within A Social Soul, in 1993, before his second record, Mind Is The Keeper, landed four years later.

He released two more albums, Please Take This Personal, and his fourth, Brighter Days, in 2009.

McKoy went on to become one of the most recognisable voices in soul music, not to mention his collaborations with other artists, such as Beverly Knight and Vanessa Simon.

His vocals featured on James Taylor Quartet’s hit Love The Life, and he joined them on several world tours.

Tributes have flooded in for the soul star, with broadcaster Robbie Vincent tweeting: ‘Saddened to hear news that important UK Soul/R&B singer #NoelMcKoy had died. Respect.’

DJ Jazzie B tweeted: ‘Sadly lost another soldier. RIEP brother Noel McKoy.’

Musician Leee John also penned: ‘Very sad to hear of the passing of my friend @mckoynoel very sad news #RIP #NoelMcKoy.’
