Ann's agent Barry Langford confirmed the sad news of her death, he said: "Sadly my lovely client of 34 years Ann Davies passed away yesterday. A superb actress with TV credits including #DoctorWho and #TheSculptress, Ann was devoted to her beloved late husband #RichardBriers and their daughters Lucy and Kate. She will be very much missed. #RIP Annie."

Ann was married to The Good Life actor Richard Briers for over 50 years until his death in 2013 and the couple starred alongside each other in the 1992 film Peter's Friends and the 1995 film In the Bleak Midwinter. Ann was also mum to ITV Endeavour’s Lucy Briers and stage-actor daughter Katie.

London-born Ann was also a close friend of Doctor Who actress Jacqueline Hill.

Tributes have poured in for the star following the announcement of her death, Star Wars writer Adam Christopher wrote: "Oh, very sad to hear about this. Jenny was an amazing character, and Ann Davies one of the great guest cast of the Hartnell era." A fan added: "RIP Ann Davies. Actress and wife of Richard Briers. Fondly remember her as Mrs Ripper in Ever Decreasing Circles."

Another fan added: "Superstar in a legendary Dr Who adventure, and she’ll never be forgotten by the fans! Those episodes get rewatched a lot in my house." A fourth said: "Saddened to hear that Ann Davies has died who played Jenny in The Dalek Invasion of Earth. R.I.P."
