Jamal Edwards has died at the age of 31.

The music pioneer and YouTuber was best known for founding youth broadcasting and film production company SB.TV.

Jamal, who is the son of English singer and TV personality Brenda Edwards, has passed away unexpectedly.

Tributes have since poured in for the late star on social media, including from Jamal's Loose Women star mum Brenda's co-star Denise Welch.

Denise wrote: "My heart aches for my friend Brenda. I can’t bear it. Jamal Edwards was a wonderful son and brother."

Rapper Jaykae wrote: "I think I can speak for us all as artists and as supporters of uk grime/rap scene when I say I owe this man so much! Helped me sometimes without even speaking of it. RIP Jamal Edwards. my guy man!!! Can’t believe I’m tweeting this. Legend. I love ya."

Chart-topper AJ Tracey said: "RIP Jamal Edwards, west London legend status"

And footballer Reece James wrote: "Rest in peace Jamal Edwards I’m lost for words."

The MOBO Awards shared a tribute that read: "We are deeply saddened to learn of Jamal Edwards passing. As the founder of @SBTVonline, his groundbreaking work & legacy in British music and culture will live on."

Many from the music industry and beyond have paid tribute to Jamal following the news of his death.

The star helped launch the careers of artists like Dave, Ed Sheeran and Jessie J, and his online urban music platform SBTV was widely known.

Jamal was known to have achieved a great deal in his 31 years, including being awarded an MBE in 2014.

The talented star was awarded the Best New StartUp from Virgin Media and Virgin StartUp in 2015 too and he was named in Debrett's list of the 500 most influential people in Britain in the New Media section.

Jamal was close with many famous faces, including Ed Sheeran who he wished a happy birthday in his last Instagram post.

Three days before his death he shared a photo with Ed and wrote: "Happy Birthday to the OG, Ed. Blessed to have you in my life brother. You know you've been mates a long time when you lose count on the years! Keep smashing it & inspiring us all G."

Jamal was appointed Entrepreneur in Residence at the University of Sussex in September 2021 and he also received an honorary degree from the University of West London.

He also presented a documentary on mental health and music industry and discussing his battle with anxiety the late star said: "Anxiety comes over me at the most random times. I wanted to create awareness. As much as music is my entry point, I feel a responsibility to talk about these other issues. I wanted to get people talking to each other and they have been, I’m happy."

Jamal's impressive career saw him messaging record labels to beg for interview time with their artists while working at Topman.

He was successful, and he secured his first non-grime interview with Kelly Rowland and he then went on to interview other huge names in the music industry.
