SARAH MICHELLE GELLAR PAYS TRIBUTE AFTER DEATH OF BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER CO-STAR
Sarah Michelle Gellar pays tribute after death of Buffy the Vampire Slayer co-star
Actor Camden Toy has died aged 68, with his co-star Sarah Michelle Gellar paying tribute.
The star was known for playing some of the scariest villains on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, which aired from 1997 until 2003.
His death was reported by friends on Facebook.
Bethany Henderson, his partner, also said Toy was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer two years ago.
In a post shared on December 8, Henderson wrote: ‘For many reasons we were very hopeful for, at least, a longer and more fruitful time on planet Earth.
‘Even the more recent challenges felt more like a hiccup in progress.
‘Unfortunately, it looks like we’ve reached the end of the road with the doctor’s treatment. His condition has declined a lot in the last two months and tremendously in the last several days.’
Henderson clarified that the late star had ‘many reasons’ for not sharing his illness publicly.
‘So, unfortunately, this may be new and shocking news to many of his fans,’ she added.
‘We both apologise for this and please know that he has appreciated you all so much, as have I!’
Following his death, Toy’s friends put together a Remembering Camden Toy page.
Taking to Instagram, Gellar, 46, shared a photo of Toy in one of his villainous roles, saying it was an ‘honour’ to work with him.
Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Toy was keen to break into the entertainment industry from an early age, and moved to New York City where he was one of the founding members of the Nada Theatre.
Toy later moved to Los Angeles and, after bagging Buffy the Vampire Slayer, soon became a hit among fans.
He was often in heavy prosthetics for the show, to the point where co-star Gellar – who played the lead Buffy Summers – once claimed that she had never seen his real face until a producer showed her a photo.
His characters included The Gentleman in the show’s Emmy-nominated fourth season in 1999.
Toy also played Gnarl in season 7 and the recurring Ubervamp in four more episodes.
He also played a new character called Prince of Lies in the Buffy spin-off, Angel, which aired between 1999 and 2000.
As well as his creepy villains, Toy’s other roles included The Insider’s Guide to Film School, The Bay, Average Joe, and a voice role on Call of Duty: Vanguard.

BELOVED BEACH BOYS MEMBER DIES FROM CANCER
Beloved Beach Boys member dies from cancer
Jeffrey Foskett, the beloved long-time member of The Beach Boys, has died after a prolonged battle with anaplastic thyroid cancer. The American singer-guitarist was 67.
Foskett’s family confirmed his death in a statement shared on Instagram, thanking his friends and fans for their “outpouring of love and support”.
“We love reading about every show, every tour memory, and every laugh he provided to the world,” the statement read. “We are deeply touched knowing Jeff has played such a pivotal role in so many of our lives, as he did yours.
“He was so special and we are so grateful that the world got to experience him,” the message continued. “There was truly no one like him and there never will be.”
The singer-guitarist, who joined the Beach Boys in the Eighties and also played in co-founders Brian Wilson and Mike Love’s touring bands, was diagnosed with stage 4 anaplastic thyroid cancer in 2019.
Despite his health struggles, he released the album Voices – including covers of songs such as The Beach Boys hits “I Shall Be Released” and “Good Vibrations” and Neil Sedaka’s “Laughter in the Rain”.
Foskett told Rolling Stone he struggled to accept that Voices would likely be his final album, explaining “it’s very difficult to call it that” because “my voice is my instrument”.
Wilson, 81, paid tribute to Foskett in a heartfelt message shared on Facebook on Monday (11 December).
“Jeff was always there for me when we toured and we couldn’t have done it without him,” Wilson, 81, wrote. “Jeff was one of the most talented guys I ever knew. He was a great musical leader and guitarist and he could sing like an angel.”
He recalled the first time he met Foskett, an ardent Beach Boys fan, on his birthday in 1978 when “he knocked on my door in Bel Air and I invited him in”
“We were friends ever since,” WIlson added. “I don’t know what else to say. Love and Mercy to Jeff’s family and friends. We will remember him forever.”
The Beach Boys’ Al Jardine recalled Foskett’s “contagious positive spirit” in a tribute shared on Instagram.
“He was so talented on so many different levels but it was his wonderful sense of humor that kept him balanced and helped him navigate all the hard knocks you get in the music business,” the 81-year-old musician wrote.
“Jeff had a contagious positive spirit and never gave up hope. God bless his beautiful spirit and zest for life, we will really miss him and cherish all the great times we shared together,” he added. “Keeping his wife Diana, his daughter and family and fans everywhere in our thoughts.
“Rest in peace Jeff and thanks for always making us smile.”
Born in San Jose, California, Foskett became a fan of The Beach Boys after he heard their song “I Get Around”. A few months after his serendipitous meeting with Brian in 1976, he was discovered by Love at a famous Santa Barbara restaurant where Foskett was performing.
Shortly after, Foskett began touring with the singer’s Endless Summer Beach Band.
When The Beach Boys’ original member Carl Wilson decided to embark on a solo musical career, Love invited Foskett to take his place, with the singer asked to stay on even after Carl’s return, which he did until 1990.“In 1990, I took a break at the request of Michael and Carl,” Foskett previously said. “I was actually doing a lot of work in the Japanese market, writing my own songs. I was making really good money as a solo artist, and I released six or eight original albums over there. They were using them in commercials and TV shows. I did very well.
In 1998, he was invited to play the guitar with Brian, who was being honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel. Shortly after, Brian’s wife Melinda Wilson asked Foskett to assemble a touring band for her husband for his solo tour.
Foskett also reunited with The Beach Boys in 2012 for their 50th anniversary tour, when they played around 75 shows together.
“That was the most fun tour I’d ever been on, and I’ve been on a lot of tours,” he said. “And then the following year, Brian and Jeff Beck got together and did the Brian and Jeff Beck tour. And that was the most stressful tour I’d ever been on.
“So I went from the most fun to the most stressful. And I thought, “Well, I just don’t know if I can do this anymore,” he added.
Reflecting on his diagnosis, Foskett said anaplastic thyroid cancer is the “grimmest of grim as far as prognosis” while revealing he was receiving treatment as part of a clinical trial at the MD Anderson Cancer Centre in Houston.
His final social media post was in March this year, when Foskett shared a video of himself ringing a bell at the Houston-based institute after completing four years of treatment.
“I don’t often post on Social but I thought this milestone was significant,” he captioned his post. “Thank You to all of you for your Prayers. They work! I am living proof. I am one of God’s Walking Miracles.”

EMMERDALE STARS HAIL STEVE HALLIWELL A ‘SOAP ICON’ AFTER HIS DEATH AGED 77
Emmerdale stars hail Steve Halliwell a ‘soap icon’ after his death aged 77
Emmerdale stars have remembered Steve Halliwell, who played Zak Dingle on the ITV drama for nearly three decades, as a “soap icon” following his death aged 77.
After making his first appearance on the long-running Yorkshire soap opera in October 1994, Halliwell became a beloved fixture as the Dingle family patriarch.
The actor died “peacefully with his loved ones around him”, his family said in a statement issued by the broadcaster on Friday.
Following the news, Emmerdale actors including James Hooton, who has played Halliwell’s on-screen son Sam Dingle since 1995, paid tribute.
Hooton tweeted: “A soap icon and a great friend has passed away today!
“Steve Halliwell was the first person I met when I walked through the door into the Emmerdale studios and we remained friends until the end!
“A truly loved character and a strong proud man, RIP Steve you will be sadly missed.”
While Lisa Riley, who played Halliwell’s on-screen niece Mandy Dingle, said the actor was “finally at peace”.
“Thank you for years of laughter, you were still laughing right up to the end. Adored, loved, respected by us all, a legend in my eyes that’s for sure – we have stories and memories to last for many more years to come,” she said.
Danny Miller, who portrays Aaron Livesy on the ITV soap opera, praised his late co-star as the “king of the ‘double takes’” in a tribute posted to Instagram.
Alongside a photo of them acting together on set, he wrote: “From day one he took me under his wing and helped guide me on and off set.
“He never failed to effortlessly make me and everyone else corpse with a simple look or grunt or “mmmm EH?!”
“The King of the ‘double takes’ and the King of The Dingles. We’ll miss you mate. On and off set. Rest well Steve and leave one in the pump for me.”
Actor Kelvin Fletcher, who played Andy Sugden on the soap, said: “What a man and what a legacy. So many incredible memories. We had some fun. God Bless.”
A statement by ITV shared on Friday said: “It is with deep sadness and a heavy heart that Emmerdale can confirm that Steve Halliwell, our beloved Zak Dingle, has peacefully passed away.
“All our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and loved ones through this very difficult time, and we’d request that their privacy is respected as they grieve for his loss.
“Steve will forever be synonymous with Emmerdale. The proud defender and head of the Dingle family. Heart and humour in all he did, it has been and always will be impossible not to smile when you think of him.”
Halliwell’s family praised him as the “most amazing father and grandfather you could ever wish for” as they confirmed the news.
“He went to sleep, peacefully with his loved ones around him,” they said in a statement.
“He was making us laugh to the end, the most amazing father and grandfather you could ever wish for, family was everything to him.
“We would like to thank the wonderful staff at St James Hospital and the Wheatfield Hospice for their love and kindness in his final days. He didn’t want sadness, just to rejoice in a life well-lived.”
John Whiston, managing director of continuing drama and head of ITV in the north, praised Halliwell for being “as wonderful off-screen as on” as he paid tribute.
He added: “To millions of Emmerdale viewers he was the brawny but crafty Dingle patriarch who led the clan with a strong fist and a warm heart.
“To everyone who worked on Emmerdale he was a much-loved friend and colleague, the undoubted father of the show, but also its fun mischievous uncle. We will miss him enormously.”
Halliwell’s role as Zak Dingle was not initially intended to be permanent but he became an integral character on the long-running serial drama after winning over viewers and producers.
Known for his flat cap, wellies and wax jacket attire, the pig farmer featured in a number of dramatic storylines, including divorcing his first wife Nellie, played by Sandra Gough, and later marrying Lisa, portrayed by Jane Cox.
There was further trouble in paradise when he had affair and married Joanie Wright, played by Denise Black, before later reuniting with Lisa.
The actor said the turbulent storylines were not too far from his own personal life, having had issues with alcohol and his mental health.
He told the Mirror in 2014: “I was born to play Zak Dingle – the cap really does fit. Most of the storylines I’ve lived in real life. I’ve been broke, evicted, in trouble with the law.
“Then there’s depression, drinking and having to fight your way out of situations. I’ve lived all those things and more.
“I can’t blame anyone else. I pressed the self-destruct button.”
The actor also said he had never been diagnosed with bipolar disorder but had considered if that might be at play.
He also described himself as a “functioning alcoholic” as he could work and live his life but admitted he was “too reliant on drink”.
He documented his experiences in his autobiography If the Cap Fits: My Rocky Road To Emmerdale.
